  • 18 holes, par 72, 6836 yards. Links.

Established in 1925, Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club is a terrific links course located along the North West coast of England, adjacent to Hillside and Royal Birkdale. This two-time host of the Ryder Cup was designed by James Braid - a very successful professional golfer and course designer whose work is still very much admired today. James Braid’s legacy is a very naturally stunning course that is set amongst large sand hills and dunes, providing a very exciting challenge throughout the round. The 16th is the signature hole and probably the most unique feature of the course. At 528 yards, it isn’t the longest par 5, but the high links dune in front of the green can create some real problems for visiting golfers. The par three 8th is another hole to pay close attention to. This hole is uphill, often into the coastal wind and anything off the green can land you in the rough stuff.

Overall Southport and Ainsdale Golf Course is a true test of golf, one suitable for golfers of all standards. It’s as beautiful as it is rewarding, and James Braid’s fantastic design has stood the test of time to become a must play if ever you are visiting the golf coast.
