  • 18 holes, par 72, 7466 yards. Links.

The Portmarnock Golf Club opened in 1894 as a 9-hole course, and was later extended to 18 holes just two years later. Over the last 120 years Portmarnock Old Course has hosted some brilliant amateur and professional tournaments, notably the Irish Open 19 times and The Walker Cup.

Portmarnock is traditionally laid out in two loops of nine like all the best classic links courses. Measuring in at over 7,000 yards and being heavily affected by the wind, this course can be a real handful and guests will need to be at their best. In Ireland you will not find better greens than here. They are exceptionally quick and the golf ball runs faultlessly across them.

Probably the biggest selling point of this unforgettable links is the closing five holes. Renowned golf writer Ben Darwin once said “I know of no greater finish in the world than that of the last five holes at Portmarnock” – a testament to the quality of the course. With all these merits it's easy to see why the Old Course finds itself in the top 30 courses in the British Isles year after year.
