Northern Ireland Golf

With Rory McIlroy dominating the game and the Open returning to Royal Portrush after an absence of more than 60 years, the Northern Ireland golf scene is as hot as it’s ever been in this wonderful country. Of course you’ll want to take on the big two – Harry Colt’s Royal Portrush and Old Tom’s masterful Royal County Down. With both ranked in the upper echelons of Golf Digest’s World Rankings this really is dream golf. But don’t forget the likes of Portstewart, Castlerock, Ardglass or even Rory’s home course Holywood. And it’s not all about seaside golf – the stunning Lough Erne Resort, with its Nick Faldo course – is the complete 5* resort.

Average weather graph for Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has what is known as a ‘marine west coast climate’ meaning that it is mild and with no dry season. This being said the rain is split relatively evenly throughout the year and the daytime weather is very rarely below freezing. Although northern Ireland may not sound like your first choice for a sunny destination, most days the climate is actually ideal for a round of golf as it doesn’t ever get too hot and the beautiful scenery mixed with milder weather can actually be a pleasant change from your typical sunny getaway.
