  • The newest addition to the rotation of courses in Cancun, this Jack Nicklaus design, known as Riviera Cancun Golf Club, opened for play in 2008 and contrasts quite dramatically his other local design. With plenty of land, Nicklaus and his team had the opportunity to integrate this track into the native land, resulting in an 18-hole venue that meanders through the surrounding areas protected by natural mangroves and lagoons.

Where it might lack in ocean views, the course makes up for with more traditional golfing beauty. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by friendly concierge at the magnificent Mexican – Contemporary Clubhouse. On the course, natural contours, strategic bunkering, immaculate greens, and wooden bridges presents its visitors with daunting obstacles in this desert-like links that stretches to nearly 7,060 yards.

Though deemed a “resort” course, many who have played it believe it to be the least “resort” feeling within Cancun. Perhaps this is a direct result of Nicklaus’ contemporary design tactic, utilizing smaller, more undulating greens that can be more difficult to hold and putt. Any approach that lacks conviction may find the aforementioned trouble, or any of the numerous run off areas.

As your round winds down, both the 14th and 15th eagerly await with breathtaking views of the ocean that have become quite common of Nicklaus courses within the Caribbean and Mexico. As for its signature hole - the 7th starts with a daunting drive over water and follows on with a second aquatic carry to a precarious, well protected green.
