  • 18 holes, par 72, 6,774 yards. Links.

Another of the classic links courses hidden away up in the Scottish Highlands, Nairn golf club was founded in 1887 and has slowly but surely established itself as one of Scotland’s best golf courses, having hosted numerous top-level championships including the Walker Cup in 1999.

A feature of many old-school links golf courses is a nine out, nine in layout, and Nairn is no different. Yet one of the truly remarkable features is the fact the first seven holes literally run alongside the Moray Firth, an inlet of the North Sea. So close is the water, it isn’t unusual for it to come into play with many a golfer having lost a wayward drive into the sea, particularly on the first tee-shot! On the other-hand though, it also provides a wonderful opportunity to spot some of the 130 bottlenose dolphins which live in the firth and regularly swim close to shore.

It’s not all just about the first seven holes though; the par 3 fourteenth hole is an absolute gem and there are a couple of par 5s well over 530 yards which when you add in the strong winds, test even the best of golfers. Renowned for its immaculate greens, this is a target golf course, with long gorse and heather a constant threat.

Nairn golf course is without doubt one of Scotland’s finest links golf courses and the course is often ranked in the Top 10 whilst also being recognised as a Top 100 golf course in the U.K. & Ireland. Just 30 minutes from Inverness, this is a must play when playing golf in Scotland, particularly if played alongside Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch.
