Pinehurst Golf

An iconic golf destination, with the sensational Pinehurst Golf Resort

Golf in Pinehurst

Any discussion of golf in North Carolina begins with Pinehurst, which is often described as the spiritual home of golf in the USA. The first course was built in 1899, and the club brought in Donald Ross to expand its golf portfolio in 1900. By 1903 it consisted of Pinehurst No 1 and nine holes on No 2. There are now a staggering nine courses to choose from. The most famous layout at Pinehurst is No.2, a former US Open, US Women’s Open and Ryder Cup host. Course No.4 and No.8 are also very highly ranked, but with all layouts weaving in and out of stunning pines, there really isn't a bad course to add to your vacation.

The golfing mecca is fortunate enough to benefit from fine golfing weather. Frequent rainfall that makes it over the mountains allows the collection of golf courses to receive enough water to remain healthy. The resort does not suffer too much from the winter either, with temperatures not dropping below 50°F meaning golf can be enjoyed all year round. However, the summer is the most idyllic season for golf hovering around the 86°F mark, making Pinehurst’s famous fairways the most enjoyable.
