  • The historic Scottish Highlands has a number of renowned links golf courses that feature in the UK and Ireland’s Top 50. The rugged Royal Dornoch is consistently ranked as one of the best in the UK and with a gloriously classic links layout covered in swathes of gorse it’s easy to see why! Despite its private golf club status it always ensures guests receive a warm Highlands welcome.

There is a strong sense of history in this area of Scotland and the James Braid designed Brora Golf Club and the Old Tom Morris designed Tain Golf Course still have trademarks of their renowned course architects. In contrast, Castle Stuart is a relatively new addition to the Scottish Highlands. A sensational links course and regular host of the Scottish Open.

Value for money on this vacation is incredible, and at $1,555 per person it is a perfect option for those looking to travel to Scotland on a budget! It even includes a local whiskey distillery tour, a warm and welcome retreat after a day on the links!

  • Halfway Houses and Beverage Carts
Most of these great links golf courses were designed to play nine holes out (away from the clubhouse) followed by nine holes back, with no halfway house. Be prepared to carry refreshments in your golf bag to keep you going for the whole round. Similarly, there are very few (if any) beverage/refreshment carts at these courses as it is not customary to drink alcohol whilst playing golf in the UK and Ireland.

    Handicap Restrictions
Many of the golf courses have handicap restrictions for visiting golfers and will require to see official proof of your handicap. The primary reason for this is to ensure only seasoned golfers visit these courses and don’t hold up play.

    Attire in Golf Clubhouses
Most golf clubs allow visitors to use their clubhouse facilities, including the locker rooms and dining areas. Over the last decade, golf clubs have relaxed their dress codes, however we recommend taking a pair of street shoes (not sneakers) to avoid any issues.
