  • The Belfry needs no introduction, having hosted a record four Ryder Cups between 1985-2002, however it is now better than ever after a recent $40m renovation of the hotel. We suggest warming up on the other Championship course onsite, The PGA National, which has hosted two European Tour events, before you take on the mighty Brabazon. Within a 90 minute drive south, lies Woburn Golf Club, which is the first 54-hole venue to have all three courses feature in the Top 100 Courses of the UK and Ireland. Ian Poulter and Charley Hull are the two Touring Professionals here, and the three golf courses have hosted more than 50 professional tournaments in their time. With no hotel onsite at Woburn, we suggest using the magnificent Luton Hoo Resort, which is only 30 minutes away and has been transformed from a stately home into a 5 star hotel with a challenging 7100 yard golf course. For an extended stay it would also be a real treat to include golf at The Grove, host to the 2006 WGC American Express Championship. Life is good!

  • Tee Times
Many of the golf courses you will wish to play are private golf clubs and therefore have limited tee times and restrictions on visitor play. Often demand outstrips supply, so it is never too early to begin planning your golf vacation.

    The Weather
The weather in this part of the world can be unpredictable, and you do need to be prepared for all kinds at any time of year. Having said that, in order to get the full UK and Ireland golf experience, every golfer should relish a dose of challenging weather at least once during their stay!

Although it is possible to play golf year-round, we view April as the start of the season. For the avid golfer who is looking to play 36 holes (or more) in one day, June and July have the longest daylight hours with play possible until 10pm!

    Halfway Houses and Beverage Carts
Most of these great links golf courses were designed to play nine holes out (away from the clubhouse) followed by nine holes back, with no halfway house. Be prepared to carry refreshments in your golf bag to keep you going for the whole round. Similarly, there are very few (if any) beverage/refreshment carts at these courses as it is not customary to drink alcohol whilst playing golf in the UK and Ireland.

    Handicap Restrictions
Many of the golf courses have handicap restrictions for visiting golfers and will require to see official proof of your handicap. The primary reason for this is to ensure only seasoned golfers visit these courses and don’t hold up play.
