Ellis Maples, a prodigy of the great golfing architect Donald Ross, designed both the Pines Course and River Course at Whispering Pines. Maples managed to brilliantly utilize the same area of land to create two completely contrasting golf courses.

The Pines course is the epitome of a traditional inland links golf course. The combination of the course’s length, generous fairways and subtle terrain changes provide a unique golfing testin this Sandhills area. The newly renovated (2016) Champion Bermuda greens are the ideal surface for golfers to enjoy a difficult but fantastic putting experience.

The River course on the other hand offers a more traditional parkland Pinehurst golf experience. Shorter in length and with a wide variety of tee boxes means that golfers of all abilities can feel comfortable. However, the narrow fairways, thick rough and overhanging oak trees still demand precise shot making.
