Where to play golf in England

Renowned for its traditional, challenging, and well-designed courses, England boasts some of the most topographically diverse golf around. There is a wide variety of layouts to choose from including parkland, heathland, woodland, and magnificent links.

There are two beautiful coastlines that golfers should pay special attention to – Liverpool & Southport, which is often referred to as England’s Golf Coast, and Sandwich Bay in Kent. Liverpool & Southport provide possibly the most famous collection of links courses in the world, with three Open Championship Royal courses located in close proximity to each other - Birkdale, Liverpool, and Lytham & St Anne’s. Furthermore, there are also a host of hidden gems located along the same coastline which includes West Lancashire, Hillside and Formby to name a few.

Much like the golf coast, Sandwich Bay is a stunning stretch of oceanside golf, with three world-class links courses. Royal St George’s is a name synonymous with the world stage, having hosted multiple Open Championships, whilst Prince’s and Royal Cinque Ports are both stunning courses in their own right, and have also held their fair share of Open Championships in the early 1900s.

Other popular courses in England that are definitely worth a visit include those at The Grove Golf Resort, The Belfry and Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa.

England often plays second fiddle to Scotland and Ireland with visiting golfers, however the links courses in the north west and south east are world-class and every bit as good.
