18 holes, par 72, 6909 yards. Links.
Twelve time host of the British Open and one of the best courses along England’s golf coast, Royal Liverpool is an absolute treat and a must-play if you’re visiting England. Built in 1869, along the Dee shores with the Welsh Hills in the background, Royal Liverpool really is the perfect setting for a world-class round of golf. George Morris originally laid out a superb nine-hole course which shared its land with a racecourse called Liverpool Hunt Club. In 1871 the course was extended to full 18-holes and later on in the year the club was granted Royal designation by The Duke of Connaught. A lot of time has passed since then, but one thing remains – the quality, prosperity and magic of Royal Liverpool Hoylake.
The course itself is a thing of beauty and perfection. As soon as you step onto the first tee it becomes evidently clear why this course has been chosen to host The Open Championship on so many occasions. The most aesthetically blistering holes are the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, which are all located along the stunning shoreline. The course is relatively flat which means that the wind is normally in full effect. There are six holes which feature large sweeping dunes - these offer temporary protection from the wind, but create new problems in the making. Royal Liverpool is simply striking and if you’re looking to experience English golf at its best then we suggest you do it here.
