Cork Golf Club overview
Cork Golf Club was formed in 1888 by some prominent Cork businessmen and moved locations several times before finally settling on the site where the golf club sits today at Little Island. The layout is very much the creation of Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1925 – course designer of Augusta National, Lahinch and Cypress Point.
The club underwent further upgrades as recently as 2010, to solidify the club as one of the best parkland venues in Ireland. As well as the 18-hole course, golfers will find a modern clubhouse that serves food in the restaurant and a well-stocked pro shop.

Cork Golf Club is one of Ireland’s real “hidden gems”, a historic Dr. Alister MacKenzie design, 5 holes meander their way through an old quarry whilst traversing the picturesque Lough Mahon. A parkland course in nature, Cork Golf Club is home to some of the best greens in Ireland which have the classic MacKenzie undulations.
Measuring just over 6800-yards from the back tees, the par-72 Cork Golf Club is a good test of golf with the River Lee in play on the 4th and 5th hole. The quarry holes follow next which are the highlight of the round, with the green on Cork Golf Club’s 11th perched precariously high up on the quarry edge.
Did You Know?
The Spanish Chestnut tree on the 11th hole marks the spot where Seve Ballesteros drove his ball during a round of golf in 1983. Whilst in typical Seve style the ball missed the fairway, it went 350 yards – not bad for a persimmon driver and balata ball!
