  • 18 holes, par 72, 7252 yards. Parkland.

The Killeen Course at Killarney is a relatively new course and was only opened for play in 1972. Killeen has held some major events, notably the Irish Open Championship in 1991 and 1992, and the Irish Open in 2010 and 2011. The course was originally designed by Eddie Hackett and Billy O’Sullivan, and was updated by David Jones in 1991 ahead of the Irish Open Championship. More recently in 2006, Donald Steel was commissioned to refurbish the course to add length, newly designed greens and numerous water hazards.

Despite being surrounded by mountains, the course is actually laid out on relatively flat land. At 7,252 yards, this course is certainly one that will challenge even the big hitters. The holes are varied and thrilling with water coming into play on a lot of the holes, calling for accuracy as well as length. A particularly noteworthy hole is the fantastic par three, 10th which is surrounded by water and you will need to be accurate to hit the green. Killen is a fantastic course and unquestionably worth a visit – just remember to take plenty of golf balls with you.
