Originally opened as Bayshore Golf Course in 1923, and part of a development designed to lure wealthy winter residents from New York, Indianapolis and Detroit.

In early 2000s it received a $10m major face-lift: every blade of grass and most trees removed; lakes drained, redesigned and refilled; irrigation system replaced, even hills and bunkers bulldozed and re-sculpted; the old clubhouse demolished and a new clubhouse was constructed.

Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates were brought in for the re-design and transformation, resulting in the once tired and under-utilized Bayshore reborn as the elegant and highly regarded Miami Beach Golf Club.

In 2011 the Inaugural South Beach International Amateur was played at Miami Beach and has now become the 5th ranked amateur tournament in the world behind the United States Amateur, British Amateur, Western Amateur and NCAA Division 1 Championship. Arguably the best public golf course to play in Miami.
