Golf Courses

Pine Needles Golf Course

The Pine Needles course, a Donald Ross-design is the first course in the country to be granted four U.S. Women’s Opens. Ross created the course in 1927, with Kyle Franz making some advancements in 2007. Franz added some length whilst keeping the overall feel in line with the original Ross design.

Rolling hills, strategic fairway bunkering and huge pines define the course. Voted by Golfweek as the #4 course in the state, it is truly a ‘must-play'.

Mid Pines Golf Course

Just across the road is the sister property and golf course – Mid Pines. Designed in 1921 by the famous architect Donald Ross, the layout remains in its original shape to this day. Visually stunning, each hole is carefully crafted into the natural rolling landscape and winds its way through the huge pine trees that dominate the land.

Initially, the course was designed for friendly competition amongst members and guests of the club, however, in recent times it has hosted national competitions challenging some of the best in the game and creating huge acclaim amongst avid golfers.

Accommodation

The Lodge at Pine Needles has 74 guest rooms with a variety of options to choose from – king beds or double queens, balconies, terraces, great views of the course and the natural surroundings are all available. Alternatively, one of the chalet-style lodges may be better suited to your group. All situated on the edge of the course and varying in size from 8 to 20 guests, they are perfect for a group of friends on a special golf vacation.

Restaurant & Bars

The Crest Dining Room is open daily and offers a fine selection of the seasonal and local produce. The Crest Courtyard is Pine Needles’ outdoor option, eat outside and watch the sunset or enjoy a glass of wine sat by the open fire.

The In-The-Rough Lounge is a far more casual affair, with an extensive choice of sandwiches, burgers and lite bites. Alternatively take a seat at the bar and enjoy a local beer or cocktail. Boxed lunches are available upon request to take out on the course.

Location

Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club is located is just minutes from the historic areas of downtown Southern Pines and Pinehurst Village. Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) is the closest airport, located less than 70 miles to the north.

Post round

Pine Needles Golf Course: The relatively short par-3 3rd hole plays over water and is heavily protected by five bunkers. Sloping sharply back to front the putting surface is a slippery one. At only 145 yards this hole is certainly no push-over and one remembered by all.

The 17th is a tough par-4, long at 461 yards it doglegs around the pines to the left. Ideally you need to move your tee-shot a little from right to left to get in the best position for the downhill approach to the green. A four on your scorecard is a great result here.

Mid-Pines Golf Courses: Feature holes at Mid Pines include the short par-4 4th hole, just 330 yards in length but the approach is full of danger as you play to a green that falls dramatically on the right side. On the back-nine, the finish is excellent. The 17th is a doglegged par-4 and the 18th plays downhill off the tee but then slightly uphill for the second into the green which is back-dropped by the magnificent looking Mid Pines Hotel.
