Experience golf in the real Scotland

The Highlands is the Scotland of your imagination. It's a natural playground with mind-blowing landscapes and spectacular golf courses, majestic mountains and stunning stretches of coastline, incredible castles and extremely hospitable people.

Due to location and proximity to the main cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, it is less accessible than those regions in the south, which makes your golf package in the Highlands even more special. The likes of Royal Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart should be on everyone's bucket list!

What makes a golf package in the Highlands so special?

Many golfers visiting Scotland don't go beyond Edinburgh or St Andrews, but for those willing to venture further north, the rewards are immense. The Highlands is Scotland's hidden gem of golf, with the country's most spectacular scenery and revered links courses.

One of the more remote regions, crowds are less and value is more, with the three must-play venues of Royal Dornoch, Nairn, and Castle Stuart topping the list. This gives you a nice mix of the old and new, with both Dornoch and Nairn dating back to the late 1800s and Castle Stuart a modern gem that has already hosted the European Tour's Scottish Open. Two other classics links worth a visit when you up in this area are Moray Old and Brora.

The Scottish Highlands...a diamond in the rough

Unspoilt nature with rugged mountains, deep blue lochs and empty glens, spectacular castles and historic battlefields, all contribute to the romance and mystique of the Highlands. Often thought of as the 'real' Scotland and how our imaginations would envisage the country to be.

Inverness is the capital and primary urban center in this otherwise sparsely populated region, and is less than three hours drive from Edinburgh, which along with Glasgow are the best two entry points for international visitors.

If you like to get off the beaten track, away from the hustle and bustle of city life and experience raw scenic beauty, then we highly recommend a trip up to the Scottish Highlands. Your dollars will go further up there too.

Our experts say...

For sheer rugged beauty, a blend of lochs and mountains, and value for money when it comes to playing world-class links courses, it is hard to beat the Scottish Highlands

Places to stay in the Scottish Highlands

Remember, we are here to help you build your perfect golf vacation, and part of that is making sure you choose the right accommodation to suit your budget and preferences.

Being the capital city of the Highlands, we find that Inverness is often a very popular base for golfers who want access to plenty of bars, restaurants and nightlife. Here we offer the modern Jury's Inn Inverness, the historic Kingsmills Hotel and the expansive Glen Mhor Hotel & Apartments.

Further east along the banks of Moray Firth is the ancient fishing port and the market town of Nairn, where you can choose between the quaint Sandown House luxury five-star B&B or the Golf View Hotel & Spa, which is a beautiful country house-style hotel overlooking the sea. For golfers who venture further north to play Royal Dornoch and Brora, we recommend the Royal Golf Hotel.
