  • 18 holes, par 71, 6,506 yards. Links.

Like nearby Lundin, this classic course bears the handiwork of both Old Tom, who laid out the original 18, and the town’s most famous son, James Braid. Having honed his game on the links, the five-times Open Champion returned to updated the course in the 1920s.

The stretch of holes from the 10th the 14th – playing hard along the water’s edge – are most people’s highlight, and with good reason. The views are spectacular and the challenge great, not least at the par-3 11th where missing the green left by a few feet could mean wet feet for the next shot.

Don’t miss the full-sized World War II submarine periscope that enables the starter to check that the first fairway is clear. Salvaged from HMS Excalibur in 1966, it’s is just one memorable part of a round at this quaint and charming club.
