Signature NW Ireland Golf Tour

Take a walk on the wild side & enjoy the amazing links of Ireland's untamed North West

Carne, County Sligo & Enniscrone Vacation
  • From Galway up to Ballyliffin at the very northern tip of Ireland, you have the most untouched and majestic landscape of anywhere in Ireland. This trip really is a  'links lover's dream', with world class courses such as Carne, Enniscrone and Rosses Point (Co Sligo), and the 2 incredible courses at Ballyliffin - the Old Links  and the Glashedy Links. Often overshadowed by its more famous cousins in the South West, please note that the North West was named European Golf Destination of the Year in 2010, and will give you real value for money.

A region not only blessed with outstanding golf, we also suggest exploring all the enchantments on offer along the Wild Atlantic Way. Take it slow along scenic routes or dive into scaling a sheer cliff face, surfing or hiking up the many mountains. You’ll find the Ireland you’ve always imagined along this wind-swept coastline. • Tee Times

Many of the golf courses you will wish to play are private golf clubs and therefore have limited tee times and restrictions on visitor play. Often demand outstrips supply, so it is never too early to begin planning your golf vacation.

    Attire in Golf Clubhouses

Most golf clubs allow visitors to use their clubhouse facilities, including the locker rooms and dining areas. Over the last decade, golf clubs have relaxed their dress codes, however we recommend taking a pair of street shoes (not sneakers) to avoid any issues.

    Caddies and Carts

The majority of the links courses have caddies available because, traditionally, they are walking courses, however we will often need to book them in advance for you. Caddies are self-employed and supply can change on a daily basis.

With regards golf carts, these can be hard to come by on the traditional links courses and in some cases do not even exist! As with caddies, please request carts at the time of booking with us and we will do our best to reserve them for you.

    Practice Facilities

These are not quite as abundant as they are at US golf courses, and you may struggle to find a practice range (or a conveniently located one) at the great, classic links courses in the UK and Ireland. Even if you do manage to find one, don’t be surprised if you have to purchase range ball tokens from the Pro Shop and self-serve!

    Halfway Houses and Beverage Carts

Most of these great links golf courses were designed to play nine holes out (away from the clubhouse) followed by nine holes back, with no halfway house. Be prepared to carry refreshments in your golf bag to keep you going for the whole round. Similarly, there are very few (if any) beverage/refreshment carts at these courses as it is not customary to drink alcohol whilst playing golf in the UK and Ireland.

    Handicap Restrictions

Many of the golf courses have handicap restrictions for visiting golfers and will require to see official proof of your handicap. The primary reason for this is to ensure only seasoned golfers visit these courses and don’t hold up play.

    The Weather

The weather in this part of the world can be unpredictable, and you do need to be prepared for all kinds at any time of year. Having said that, in order to get the full UK and Ireland golf experience, every golfer should relish a dose of challenging weather at least once during their stay!

Although it is possible to play golf year-round, we view April as the start of the season. For the avid golfer who is looking to play 36 holes (or more) in one day, June and July have the longest daylight hours with play possible until 10pm!

““This really is Ireland’s best kept secret. Incredibly rugged and untamed landscape, making for perfect links golf terrain. Remote and difficult to get to…but truly worth it.””
