  • For most people the main draw is St Andrews, which is recognized worldwide as The Home of Golf. And it's easy to see why, boasting an array of golf courses including the famous Old Course, where we have been appointed an Authorised Provider of tee times. However it's just one of the many wonderful links in this incredible golfing region, making it an essential pilgrimage for golfers.

Discover the likes of Kingsbarns, one of the best courses to open in Scotland in the last 50 years, and Carnoustie which along with The Old play annual host to worldwide celebrities and the Dunhill Links Trophy

Although no golf trip to Scotland is complete without coming ‘home’ we also recommend a visit to Gleneagles, which is an hour inland from St Andrews and where you can enjoy the spectacular stage of the 2014 Ryder Cup.

  • Tee Times
We can get you guaranteed tee times on the Old Course at St Andrews, but as you can imagine these are at a premium and therefore very costly. The alternative is to enter the ‘ballot’ 2 days prior to your preferred day of play. You can enter the ballot on as many consecutive days as you like. can help you with this process and the chances of getting a tee time are good BUT not guaranteed.

    Attire in Golf Clubhouses
Most golf clubs allow visitors to use their clubhouse facilities, including the locker rooms and dining areas. Over the last decade, golf clubs have relaxed their dress codes, however we recommend taking a pair of street shoes (not sneakers) to avoid any issues.

    Caddies and Carts
The majority of the links courses have caddies available because, traditionally, they are walking courses, however we will often need to book them in advance for you. Caddies are self-employed and supply can change on a daily basis.

With regards golf carts, these can be hard to come by on the traditional links courses and in some cases do not even exist! As with caddies, please request carts at the time of booking with us and we will do our best to reserve them for you.

    Practice Facilities
These are not quite as abundant as they are at US golf courses, and you may struggle to find a practice range (or a conveniently located one) at the great, classic links courses in the UK and Ireland. Even if you do manage to find one, don’t be surprised if you have to purchase range ball tokens from the Pro Shop and self-serve!

    Halfway Houses and Beverage Carts
Most of these great links golf courses were designed to play nine holes out (away from the clubhouse) followed by nine holes back, with no halfway house. Be prepared to carry refreshments in your golf bag to keep you going for the whole round. Similarly, there are very few (if any) beverage/refreshment carts at these courses as it is not customary to drink alcohol whilst playing golf in the UK and Ireland.

    Handicap Restrictions
Many of the golf courses have handicap restrictions for visiting golfers and will require to see official proof of your handicap. The primary reason for this is to ensure only seasoned golfers visit these courses and don’t hold up play.

    The Weather
The weather in this part of the world can be unpredictable, and you do need to be prepared for all kinds at any time of year. Having said that, in order to get the full UK and Ireland golf experience, every golfer should relish a dose of challenging weather at least once during their stay!

Although it is possible to play golf year-round, we view April as the start of the season. For the avid golfer who is looking to play 36 holes (or more) in one day, June and July have the longest daylight hours with play possible until 10pm!

“Thanks so much for preparing a wonderful trip. The important thing to me, was that every time I called, or e mailed you, my calls and e mails were returned immediately, and very professionally. The drivers for McLaren were also great. Very prompt, professional, and always there waiting when we arrived at the airport, or ready for our next excursion. Thanks again Chris to you and Golf Breaks for preparing a wonderful trip to Scotland. This was my fourth trip to Scotland. I can honestly say, because of your booking, and preparation of our trip, it was the most enjoyable, because it relieved all the stress out of booking”
