Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club overview

Packed with southern hospitality, the Mid Pines Inn is full of tradition and home to an internationally acclaimed golf course. It feels like stepping back in time as you go into Mid Pines Inn as this Georgian-style accommodation is bursting with charm and history.

The Mid Pines golf course ranks as one of the best golf courses in North Carolina, which is nestled in the rolling landscape and defined by the huge pine trees that hug the edge of the fairways. Across the road from the Mid Pines Inn is the equally impressive sister course, Pine Needles (also a Ross-design).

Golf courses at The Inn at Mid Pines

Designed in 1921 by the famous architect Donald Ross, the Mid Pines Golf Course layout remains in its original shape to this day. Visually stunning, each hole is carefully crafted into the natural rolling landscape and winds its way through the huge pine trees that dominate the land. Initially, the course was designed for friendly competition among members and guests of the club, however, in recent times it has hosted national competitions challenging some of the best in the game and creating huge acclaim among avid golfers.

Just across the road from the Mid Pines Inn is the sister property Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. The Pine Needles course, also a Donald Ross-design is the first course in the country to host four U.S. Women’s Opens. Ross created the course in 1927, with Kyle Franz making some advancements in 2007. Franz added some length while keeping the overall feel in line with the original Ross design. Rolling hills, strategic fairway bunkering and huge pines define the course. Voted by Golfweek as the #4 course in the state it is truly a ‘must-play’.

What is the signature hole at The Inn at Mid Pines?

Feature holes at Mid Pines include the short par-4 4th hole, just 330-yards in length but the approach is full of danger as you play to a green that falls dramatically on the right side. On the back-nine, the finish is excellent. The 17th is a doglegged par-4 and the 18th plays downhill off the tee but then slightly uphill for the second into the green which is back-dropped by the magnificent looking Mid Pines hotel.
